It is hard to overstate the reputation Bringhurst and his book have gained in the typographic community. It has been praised by Hermann Zapf, who said “I wish to see this book become the Typographers’ Bible” and more recently, it has been called “the finest book ever written about typography”. It appears on countless syllabi and reading lists, and is one of the “triumvirate” of type books still recommended to beginning typographers and designers.
“Typography is to literature as musical performance is to composition: an essential act of interpretation, full of endless opportunities for insight or obtuseness.” ― Robert Bringhurst, The Elements of Typographic Style
