WOMEN OF INSPIRATION

JOANNA | The daughter
Joanna is a transitional serif typeface designed by Eric Gill, and named for one of his daughters. The typeface was originally designed for proprietary use by Gill’s printing shop Hague & Gill. The type was first produced in a small quantity by the Caslon Foundry for hand composition. It was eventually licensed for public release by the Monotype foundry in 1937.

MRS EAVES | The housekeeper & mistress
Mrs Eaves is named after Sarah Eaves, the woman who became John Baskerville’s wife. As Baskerville was setting up his printing and type business, Mrs. Eaves moved in with him as a live-in housekeeper, eventually becoming his wife after the death of her first husband. Mrs Eaves is a revival of the types of English printer and punchcutter John Baskerville.

CAECILIA | The wife
This Linotype typeface was designed in 1990 by Peter Matthias Noordzij , and named for his wife, Caecilia. Because its shapes are humanist rather than geometric, PMN Caecilia is easier on the reader’s eye and so more useful as a text typeface than most slab serif designs.
